FIRST SKYDIVE PERTH EXPERIENCE: WHAT TO EXPECT

My first tandem skydive experience in Perth was surreal. Skydiving is on my bucket list so when my sister had a SkyDive Perth voucher that was about to expire and she invited my brother and me to do the skydive with her, ‘Let’s Go!‘ was always the answer.

Is skydiving scary?

No, skydiving is not scary. The fact that all first-time skydivers do it with a skydiving instructor already makes it less scary because you have someone professional there with you.

It is normal to feel anxious and scared in the lead up to the skydive but the actual skydive happens so quick that you don’t even realise you’re free-falling until the instructor opens up the parachute and you’re enjoying the view.

Is there an age and weight limit for skydiving?

Age and weight limits depend on the location you are doing your jump and the terms and conditions of the skydive operators.

In Western Australia, 16 years old is the minimum age for you to do a skydive and they would require a guardian’s written permission. There is no maximum age and no minimum weight limit as long as you are fit and able. The maximum weight limit is 115kg. Some skydive operators charge additional fees if you weigh over 90kg.

Skydive operators reserve the right to do an assessment during the check-in process and refuse a skydive if they have any concerns with your age, weight or health.

How much does SkyDive Perth cost?

SkyDive Perth tickets depend on when you do the skydive (day or season), where you do the skydive and the height you do the jump from. Costs are from $300 for an 8,000 ft skydive and fees go up as the height of the jump goes up, the highest jump is at 15,000 ft.

The cost of skydiving is expensive as the fee covers the cost of fuel, insurance, instructor, pilot and high-quality equipment required (parachutes, rigs, etc.) to assure people’s safety during the jump.

Is SkyDive Perth worth it?

SkyDive Perth is definitely worth it! Skydiving may be expensive but I guess doing it on a perfect day, with clear skies and right wind conditions, would help make it a memorable experience as it is just an experience unlike any other.

The adventure of jumping off of an aeroplane, free-falling and literally and figuratively floating in the air enjoying scenic views is just priceless!

When is the best time to skydive in Perth?

The best time to skydive in Perth is on a sunny weekday morning.

We’re lucky that Perth’s weather is mostly sunny all year so you’ll just need to make sure that on the day you are doing a skydive, there’s little to zero chance of rain.

Doing a skydive on a weekday is recommended because it is when it is not so busy. It is also cheaper to jump on a weekday compared to the weekend.

Morning is the best time to do the skydive, the earliest the better, as the morning has the clearest skies.

First Tandem SkyDive Perth Experience

We booked the 15,000 ft tandem skydive at Rockingham. We scheduled it for 6:00 am but when the date got closer, it got changed to 7:30 am. Since we were already doing a skydive, why not do the highest jump, right?

On a perfect February morning, we arrived at the SkyDive Perth Rockingham office. After we checked in with the receptionist, they made us sign some paperwork. When everyone from our group submitted our waivers, we had a safety briefing. After, they paired us with our tandem instructor.

It was around 8:00 am when the minibus arrived to drive us to the beach to watch the landing of the first group as we were the second group to skydive for the day.

At the beach, they made us put on the jumpsuit, harness, goggles, etc. and got briefed again. It was the same safety training and precautions the instructor did earlier. Then, we rode the minibus for about 30 minutes to the airport.

At the airport, it was when we were about to board the plane that it started to sink in. There’s no turning back now, I am really doing this!

The plane took off and everyone was quietly looking out the window.

Then, the plane doors opened and we had a minute of free fall.

The instructor deploys the parachute. We were floating for about 5 minutes and enjoyed the great view of Rockingham. Wow, I really did it!

We waited for everyone in our group to land and then headed back to the office to get our skydive photos. We left the office by around 10:30 am.

Afterwards, we grabbed an early lunch and I felt like I was still floating. It was only when we got home that I felt dizzy!

Will I do this again? Heck yeah!
